Vehicle Delivery Tracking

Answer "where is my vehicle?" without ringing the driver.

Most of the interruptions in a transport office are the same question asked by different people. Tracking removes it by making progress visible — to the office while the movement runs, and to the customer where you choose to share it.

TransportMate is vehicle delivery tracking software rather than a telematics platform: the tracking follows the job and the driver completing it, from collection through to the delivery handover and the proof document that follows.

What is vehicle tracking software?

Vehicle tracking software shows where a vehicle or a driver is, and how a journey is progressing. In practice the term covers two quite different things. Fleet telematics hardware is fitted to your own vehicles and reports position, mileage, engine data and driver behaviour continuously. Delivery tracking software follows the work instead: which job is running, who is running it, where they have got to, and when each stage was completed.

TransportMate is the second kind. It tracks vehicle movements through the app the driver is already using, which is what matters when the vehicle being moved is the customer's rather than your own, and when it may be driven on trade plates or carried on a transporter.

Vehicle tracking for transport and delivery operations

A vehicle transport operation does not need a position on a map for its own sake. It needs to answer specific questions during the day: has the car been collected yet, is the driver going to make the delivery window, which movements are still outstanding this afternoon, and what do I tell the customer who has just rung.

Because tracking sits on the job rather than on a box in a lorry, it works the same way for driven movements, transporter loads and work given to subcontracted drivers.

Track vehicle deliveries from collection to delivery

Allocated

The job is assigned and visible to the driver in the app before the movement starts.

Collection

The collection inspection and signature record that the vehicle has been picked up, with the time it happened.

In transit

Driver location is visible to the office while the movement is underway.

Delivery

The delivery inspection and receiving signature close the movement at the destination.

Documented

The proof document is produced from what was captured and can be sent to the customer.

Outstanding work

The office can see what is still to be collected, delivered or documented.

GPS and location visibility

Location comes from the driver's device with their permission, not from hardware fitted to a vehicle. While a movement is active the office can see the driver's position, and the collection and delivery events are recorded with the time and location at which they were completed.

That second part is the more valuable one. A live position is useful today; the location stamped on the handover is what settles a question about where and when a vehicle changed hands months later. Location is used in the context of active work, and our privacy policy sets out how the information is handled.

Customer vehicle delivery tracking

Customers can be given visibility of the movement instead of ringing for updates, and are kept informed as the job progresses. When the movement completes, the proof document follows, so the customer receives both the update and the evidence of what was delivered and in what condition.

For dealers, leasing companies and trade customers moving several vehicles at once, that is usually the difference between one call a day and none.

Tracking, POC and POD

Tracking and proof are related but separate. Tracking tells you where a movement is now. The proof record captures where and when the handover happened and what condition the vehicle was in — photographs, damage records, signature, time and location — and that is the part that matters weeks later when a claim is raised.

The two come from the same workflow: the driver completing the collection or delivery is the event that both updates tracking and creates the proof document, so there is nothing separate to remember to do.

Vehicle tracking software vs fleet telematics

What is tracked

Telematics tracks your own vehicles continuously. TransportMate tracks the job and the driver running it.

What it is installed on

Telematics needs hardware fitted. TransportMate uses the driver's phone, with their permission.

What it produces

Telematics produces mileage, engine and driving data. TransportMate produces job progress and proof documents.

Whose vehicle

Telematics covers vehicles you own. Vehicle transport usually means moving someone else's vehicle.

Used together

TransportMate is not a replacement for telematics. Operators who run telematics on their transporters can use both, for different purposes.

Frequently asked questions

What is vehicle tracking software?

Vehicle tracking software shows where a vehicle or driver is and how a journey is progressing. TransportMate provides tracking of vehicle movements through the driver app, rather than telematics hardware fitted to vehicles.

What is delivery tracking software?

Delivery tracking software follows the progress of a job rather than a vehicle: whether it has been collected, where the driver is, when it was delivered and what was recorded at each stage.

Can customers track a vehicle delivery?

Customers can be kept informed of progress on their movement and receive the proof document when it completes, without the office relaying updates by phone.

Does TransportMate use GPS?

Yes. Location is taken from the driver's device with their permission, both for live tracking while a movement is underway and for the location recorded against collection and delivery.

Can tracking be used alongside POC and POD?

Yes. They come from the same workflow — the driver completing a collection or delivery both updates progress and produces the POC or POD document.

Can vehicle tracking show collection and delivery progress?

Yes. Each movement shows where it has got to, from allocation through collection to delivery, along with what is still outstanding.

Is tracking the same as proof of delivery?

No. Tracking shows current progress; proof of delivery is the record of the handover itself, including condition, photographs, signature, time and location.
